即使，孟子認為堯舜的禪讓，不離君權神授 ; Divine Right。故引據泰誓 :「天視自我民視，天聽自我民聽。」(註1)

天視不自鬼神視，天聽不自鬼神聽。

如是，主權在民，不有疑義 !

孔子強調，務民之義，敬鬼神而遠之，可謂知也。(見論語雍也)

更謂 : 未能事人，焉能事鬼。(見論語先進)

充分展現其人本精神( humanism )。

孟子乃謂 : 民為貴，社稷次之，君為輕。(見孟子盡心下) (註2)

孟子乃以民本( popular sovereignty ; people sovereignty )承繼孔子的人本精神。

天何言哉 ! 四時行焉，百物生焉，天何言哉 !

星體運行，秩序井然，萬物生生不息，何庸上天介入 !

人類循此理性，自律自治自主，上天何庸涉入 !

禪讓政治就是社會契約的定型化，人民當依據社會契約的理性，給予君王戴上金箍榮冠。

人民只要念念緊箍咒，偉大的君王，當永遠效勞，甚至效忠人民，修成正果，完成天命。  

五常箍以三綱 ! 從此，主客易位，永遠套牢人民 !

君王，the king; the prince，not the sovereign，不是主權者，人民才是主權者。大西洋憲章第三項聲明宣示 : 他們樂見所有人民恢復他們被強制剝奪的主權者權利與自治( They wish to see sovereign rights and self government restored to those who have been forcibly deprived of them. ) 。
