　「八十七年前，吾等父老在此大陸建立一新國家，其乃自由所孕育、且致力落實＂所有人皆生而平等＂的國家發展目標。

　　現今吾人陷入一大規模內戰，試煉該當國家或任何國家，如此受孕且如此致力落實平等，能否長期承受。吾人會聚於該戰爭之一意義重大戰場。吾人來此獻上該戰場部分土地，供作最終安息處所。莊嚴諸為該當國家得以生存，而在此犧牲生命的英靈。吾人作此奉獻，完全適宜與正當。

　　然而，究其深意而言，吾人無以奉獻—吾人無以榮耀—吾人無以莊嚴此土地。諸勇者在此奮鬥，不論生或死，已莊嚴此土地，遠超乎吾等微薄力量所能增減。世人不會太在意或長時記得吾等在此所述，但是，世人絕對不能忘懷諸勇者在此所為。吾等生者寧在此誓言獻身眼前遺留的未完成偉大使命,其已為在此奮戰的勇士壯麗向前推進—由於渠等光榮犧牲，吾等獲得其所激發增益的奉獻熱誠，以完成此志業，其乃渠等為之付出僅存然最大的奉獻—吾人在此謹以至高決意，誓言渠等絕不平白犧牲—即此國家，在上帝保佑、監督下，必獲得自由的新生—且據於政府的民有、民治、民享原理，絕不消逝於世間。」

　　「Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation , conceived in Liberty , and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

　　　　Now we are engaged in a great civil war testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated , can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and porper that we should do this.

　　But , in a larger sense , we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground.The brave men , living and dead , who struggled here , have consecrated it , far above our poor power to add or detract . The world will little note , nor long remember what we say here , but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather , to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.
